Description

Play the digital adaptation of the beloved tabletop board game. Root is a game of adventure and war where 2 to 4 players battle for control of a vast wilderness. The nefarious Marquise de Cat has seized the great woodland, intent on harvesting its riches. Under her rule, the many creatures of the forest have banded together. This Alliance will seek to strengthen its resources and subvert the rule of Cats. In this effort, the Alliance may enlist the help of the wandering Vagabonds who are able to move through the more dangerous woodland paths. Though some may sympathize with the Alliance’s hopes and dreams, these wanderers are old enough to remember the great birds of prey who once controlled the woods. Meanwhile, at the edge of the region, the proud, squabbling Eyrie have found a new commander who they hope will lead their faction to resume their ancient birthright. The stage is set for a contest that will decide the fate of the great woodland. It is up to the players to decide which group will ultimately take root.

I’ve been playing this app for 4 years. It truly never gets old! An asymmetric war game with amazing factions. The way direwolf brought this board game to life is insane! It’s a masterpiece! I just have one question…. PLEASEEEE give us some news about the mauraders expansion!! Is it in the works? Almost done? In the middle? Will we get it this year? Next year? Please give us something! XD

I’m enjoying it a lot. Just been playing the tutorials and against the AI but think it’s fun and would probably just as fun with friends as well.

This game is a modern symmetrical Wargame with cute animals. Each animal type has special powers related to their animal nature. Using the powers of your the animal tribe you were playing you have various ways to win this game and I enjoy that a ton. Each expansion changes the gameplay. The mechanics the game are easy to play and easy to follow and this app makes it just smooth, so learning on this app is a great way to learn playing this game. I do recommend this game. I am so glad you have it and to have the board game itself as a Physical copy. well done; just, well done.
  • Setup is so frustrating

Setting up private games with my group of friends is buggy. Every time we either cant find their game or have problems with faction selection. We’re in txt threads already, it would be so much easier to be able to create a game (reliably) and then just send a link to the group thread with password auto filled. Its such a great game just so hard to setup.
  • Edit: Horrible Sound Glitch

I tried mirroring to my Apple TV and now The sound on the game only works when I connect AirPods. I’ve deleted the game, restarted my phone and nothing works. Can only be played with headphones now. Never had a chance to even start my first game. 0/5 do not recommend. Edit: The sound issue is caused by the iPhone being on silent mode. This is not a bug with the developer, but rather a feature, according to Apple’s technical literature regarding silent mode on the iPhone 14 Plus. I have changed my rating to a 5, because the app is actually amazing after resolving the sound issue. If you are experiencing no sound on while using this application on iOS, be sure to check that your sound is not on silent.

A nice implementation; works great on mobile; cross platform seems to work seamlessly.

It’s hard to imagine a better digital version of a board game than this one. it’s a great way to learn the game and can be played quickly in this format. I’m playing on iPad and controls and screen size is perfect.
  • Small Bugs, but still good

Worth the cost to buy it, but playing multiplayer, my friends and I have had plenty of instances where one of us is frozen. So they then need to leave the game and re-join. When you re-join a game, it shows you the last few turns that you missed, and this feels like such a waste of time, watching an unskippable cutscene of turns that you’ve already watched. If they could just add a “skip recap” button that would be great. Also, not freezing during online play would be nice.
  • Unreadable

I’m sure this is a great game, and I really want to learn it. Unfortunately, this app is pretty worthless for me since the text size is absolutely microscopic without any way to increase it. It’s a shame since there’s plenty of screen real estate that could be used. Edit 6/24: the devs reached out rather quickly following this review to offer a series of nonsensical, unhelpful comments. Minus one more star.

Why can’t I check the board after the game is over? Often times there’s a win and I’m confused about how the opponent one. It happens so fast. Also, I feel like the tutorial missed some important points. I had to watch a YouTube video on how to play after the tutorial.
