  • Best recipes ever

One of my very first cookbooks was the New York Times cookbook in the 1960s and I still use it to this day. I love the new recipes that I have found on this app and so does everybody else when I make it. I know I can rely on these recipes.
  • Years of great meals

As a subscriber to NYT cooking, my husband and I have enjoyed many, many happy and delicious meals. My only complaint, is that that these recipes are for very large quantities. Yes, you can divide them in half BUT what about the small quantities of spices….hard to decide what’s ok to skip, 1/2 teaspoon, and what’s not. Keeping in mind that many of us are in two member households, can your writers please consider, smaller portions?
  • Should have gotten this sooner

Utterly ridiculous that it took until now, after years of ignoring the pleas, that I finally got a subscription to the New York Times. Here’s this thing. I didn’t know it had all this!! Don’t get me wrong… it’s worth it just for the news… but then this full fledged cooking app and archive???? Games?? Reviews??? Totally worth it! I recommend to everyone I know and have already gotten 5 more converts! Keep it no up NYT!
  • Can’t see ratings on app

It’s frustrating that you can’t see the ratings on a recipe. This only happens on the app.
  • The app is great but there is something strange going on with the way subscriptions are charged

I really love the app and I have made some of the tastiest recipes through it but what would be 4-5 stars is a 3 star rating based on the fact that not once but twice I have been charged 24.99 when I know I signed up to only pay 4.99 a month for strictly NYT cooking. I spoke with someone in July from NYT’s customer service line when I saw a 24.99 charge to my credit card for NYT and was extremely confused. The person told me that it was an “all access charge” which I never signed up for. He said if I signed up for NYT cooking through Apple and not NYT he can’t refund my money so he wasn’t able to give me my money back but he said he switched my account to NYT cooking only, which only costs 4.99 per month. Fast forward to October, I get now got another charge to my credit card for 27.15. Again, it is a charge from New York Times all access through Apple which I never signed up for! I went to the subscriptions part of the app and it was selected for “NYT all access” and not just the cooking app. I know for a fact I only paid 4.99 a month for August and September and I had not touched the subscription settings at all. So how it’s just switching back to that on its own is extremely annoying to me. I cancelled the subscription and changed it back to the 4.99/month option and luckily I was early enough to get a partial refund for it but now I feel like I need to be paying attention to it to make sure it’s not sneakily being changed back to the more expensive subscription.
  • About your recipes…

I’ve just had the best couple of months trying out about 36 of the the recipes you send out every day. All so delicious and uncomplicated! Several have worked their way into my autopilot kitchen routine. I so appreciate eating more and more kinds of (canned) beans; the new (for me) seasonings and flavors. We have changed the way we eat!!!
  • Instacart tie in ruined functionality

I loved this app and depended on it for meal planning for years. However, in the past year they have added a button to shop ingredients on Instacart. This completely has broken the app and it refuses to function with the regular “add ingredients to grocery list” Huge disappointment

    Best cooking app
  • App holds the recipes hostage

I enjoy having the app but probably won’t renew, primarily because the NYT makes online subscribers pay extra for access and the app doesn’t offer an option to print or share recipes. With such easy access to printable recipes for free, this seems like a pretty expensive and exclusive recipe box, especially when the recipe of the day is sometimes recycled from existing content.
  • Text is too small and not adjustable

NYT Cooking app type is too small, it doesn’t honor the dynamic type setting on iPhone and the size can’t be adjusted directly in the app to accommodate failing eyes. Also, can’t highlight or select type in the app to copy it, which would make it easier to look up words or ingredients I don’t know. This is not true for recipes viewed in the NY Times app.
